Thanks so much for posting the contact info. I’ve been trying for weeks to get this thing to work with my iMac, but it doesn’t look promising. Did all the updates on a PC and still not working. And I’m pretty much fed up with talking to “Jim” and “Terry” and “Angela.”

    Just a solid Thank You!!

Thank you to who ever has done this. I have been caught in a web of deciet that I can’t seem to get any help getting out of. They charged my account one week after I recieved the two I ordered, I could not use them, you couldn’t get any personal help !I finally got a return number on a support chat that was suppose to enable you to send it back through UPS free. NOT !YOU CANNOT USE THAT PROMISED RETURN # SO THAT IT IS FREE WITH I 30 DAYS BECASUE IT IS GOING BACK TO A BOX NUMBER AND THAT ISN;T ALLOWED THROUGH ups ! Had to send it back US Mail a week after I received it and it wasn’t due for another two – three weeks, the charging until 30 days later, the 28th of September.
It is alreay charged to my account9/10/2008 and I can’t get a LIVE PERSON TO EVEN TRY TO DEAL WITH! IT HAS BEEN DECIET FROM THE BEGINNING, NO 30 DAYS FREE, NO FREE RETURN, NO ONE TO HELP YOU. CHARGED ME FOR NOTHING PLUS SEVERAL S&H CHARGES, FAIR= NOT ! MISREPRESENTATION=TRUE ! INTEGRITY= NO ! ROBBERY=YES !

THEY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THIS SENIOR CITIZEN AS I IMAGINE THEY HAVE MANY THAT NEEDED TO TRY TO CUT CORNERS DESPERATLY = SO THEY COULD GET RICH !FAIR = NO!!!

AMERICAN, MORAL = NO!!! SHAME ON THEM, THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED AND MORE. THERE SHOULD BE SOME KIND OF RECOARSE, IF ANY ONE KNOWS OF WHAT IT COULD BE PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I CAN SEE WHY THEY HAVE THEIR SITES DOWN, TOO MANY ANGRY PEOPLE TO DEAL WITH AND ANSWER TOO.

IT IS BACK FIRING ON THEM I SUPPOSE AND WELL IT SHOULD ….THINGS LIKE THIS SHOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, THAT WASN’T MEANT FOR PEOPLE TO STEAL FROM OTHER’S BECAUSE OUR NATION ALLOWS THEM TO BE AND DO FREELY ! THAT WAS NEVER WHAT IT MEANT, THAT IS WHY WE HAVE LAWS ! I BELIEVE THEY HAVE CROSSED MANY OF THEM, AND SHOULD GET THEIR JUST REWARDS FOR CAUSING SO MANY PEOLE SO MUCH TROUBLE AND COSTING THEM THAT CAN’T AFFORD IT.

Seems to me, that this inventor did not measured the way of growing.
Please, get rid of this… Get off that stupid video with that girl and two dogs… it’s really awful, more if you’ve gotten into incommunications at all.
    1. You couldn’t talk with the system “MagiJack”
    2. You try several times to get rid on it.
    3. You tried to get customer support help at 24 hours a day, that is FALSE.
    4. You tried to look for THEIR phone number: nothing.
    5. The stupped kid with two dogs video in a final link.
    6. THIS IS FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is not a comment but more a request. I would like to order the magic Jack but,I am a little reluctant because of the complication for which I would like an answer. If someone were to call me locally, being in Canada, isn’t that call going to be a long distance for the person placing it? I assumed that is the way it’s going to work since the number that is going to be assigned to me will have a US area code. My question now is: Could I have a canadian area code number since I am living in Canada? If not, When would I be able to get a Canadian number?

  8. Joe said, on December 1, 2008 at 8:01 pm

Canadian area codes are not available, you have to pick a US based area code from the limited area codes they have. Also it’s 911 service won’t work in Canada.

Yes, anyone calling you will have to dial your US area code + number, so all calls to you will be long distance unless someone is calling you from the same area code in the USA.

magic jack say Canadian area codes will be available “soon” , and they said that SEVERAL months ago, but I wouldn’t count on it being added too soon. Expect there will be an additional charge for Canadian area codes in the future if they ever become available.

if you’re looking to replace a land-line with a VoIP line, I’d say forget Magicjack.. its a great low cost VoIP service, but not for everyone.

  9. Top Sider said, on December 16, 2008 at 7:22 am

I live in Eastern Canada and I have been using Magic
Jack for 10 weeks ….. NO problems.
Tell your Canadian friends to e-mail you and the use MJ to call them.
So you have to keep a landline for 911 calls. That to me is a minor consideration when you get unlimited and 24/365 calls in North America + a second phone line for about SIX cents a day.
Bell wants $37 for a second phone line and my (now cancelled) long distance plan was $25 a month.
    Using “MJ” is a no-brainer!

  10. Rob Barnett said, on December 22, 2008 at 11:53 pm

hi I live north of Toronto. I have had my MJ now for about 2 weeks. prior to MJ I did not have a landline so I didn’t have 911, nor did I have 911 while growing up! I have read many sites filled with complaints, I would says 95% of these people can not read? the MJ site clearly tells you, you need a good internet connection, no dialup. originally would not work with a Mac,there is a download for vista, it had to be plugged into you usb to work, also stated there is no Canadian phone #’s yet, I’ve heard people complain about they have to have their computer turned on for it(MJ)to work, duh. the MJ site tells you to run the Magicfix, if you try to use a MJ on a $10.00 computer how can you expect this gadget to work? I have heard numerous other ridiculous complaints, far to many to mention. I just want to say this MJ works beautifully I don’t recall any calls I’ve made to BC, Alberta and to the USA being a problem I have logged about 7-8 hrs without a hitch. why would someone expect more than what the web site told them about MJ. I did do a live chat inquiring about paying for a future license with pay pal, also I very easily found their 800#’s and that they are located in Boca Raton Florida, also other contact#’s for Canada plus email addresses I don’t see any mystery to this gadget as long as you don’t expect any more than what the Magicjack web site told you prior to purchasing, this is a great little gadget. like TOM SIDER says it a “no brainer” thank you Magicjack=======Rob Ontario Canada

    Hi,
I usually do my research before purchasing, but I had heard so many good things about magicjack, and let it slide this time. Not good, I only have a laptop, so it wouldn’t work. I couldn’t believe that the live chat person out right lied, about not having a phone number!!
A million thanks, I am calling first thing in the morning so I can return it. They didn’t even enclose an invoice with my shipment. Talk about bad omen. Anyway thanks so much for the number.

Thank you for the phone number as I will be calling them today. I am the proud owner of 2 MagiJacks (Plug and Play was perfect). I bought one more for a xmas gift and the unit was defective.. (Failed to Contact to your service provider. Make sure you have a working connection to the internet). I sent 2 trouble tickets (from debug on MJs Menu) and never got a response.. I contacted the eBay seller I got it from and he never replied to 5 of my emails. I purchased another one from RadioShack and they said they would take care of me. As I went to install and register it my area code of 614 no longer appears under Ohio where as all the others do. Did they run out of 614 prefixes?? and if so why is RadioShack selling them in my area.. Please help… S.K.

Thank you for providing these important numbers. The support line is for billing questions and it said there was a long wait but it was ony 2 min for me. When I bought my 2 magicjacks I also bought 2 years services on them. But my account only stated 1 year. Through the chat emails back and forth, I got nowhere as they couldn’t find me or my credit card in the system. Come to find out by calling Support, they had an old system and a new system. My order being placed early 08 was on the old one. They found me and corrected my accounts in 2 days. Top notch service. Love my magicjack.

We have been trying to get our magicjack to work, but this thing is a joke. We have tryed everything and nothing seems to work. We can call people and they can call us, but that’s as far as it goes, we can’t understand a word that is said. Is there going to be a class action lawsuit? I really wished this phone system worked. Thanks for all your info and any info in the future.

I am not using my magicjack because when i call no one can hear me why, can you please help me. I have also forgotten my password, Can you help me because I tried to recover it but it was never sent to my e-mail address.

  25. rip747 said, on May 23, 2009 at 9:23 pm

i can try to help you the best I can with the noone hearing you; as for the password issue, there isn’t really anything I can do about that. I would suggest calling their help line or going to their website and trying to reset your password.

with the problem with noone hearing you, this could be caused by your connection. see if there is anything that is taking up bandwidth. go to speedtest.net and perform a test to see what the strength of your connection is. i’ve also found that viruses and spyware can quickly drain any bandwidth that you might have, so make sure that you run an antivirus and spyware checker on your machine just to be safe.

one last thing is that you might want to get a router that has QOS built into it. QOS makes it so that certain applications take precedence over others when using your internet connection. setup your QOS so that the magicjack port have the highest priority, this is usually UDP ports 5060-5070 for outgoing and UDP 10000-20000 for destination.

if you router doesn’t support QOS (like my linksys did), you can always flash the firmware of your router with a new firmware like Tomato.

My MagicJack has worked perfectly since December 2007. It is not a scam nor is it a joke nor does MagicJack lie cheat or steal. It works exactly as described on their website. People with trouble who want to sue must not be able to read what the website states. You must be able to think just a little bit. We are dealing with a computer here. Computers are not toasters that most any idiot can use! Please read prior to talking to you lawyer to sue! YOU are responsible for knowing what you have ordered!

I have magic jack for one year.
I just paid $19.95 for another year on June 5, 2009. Much to mu regret, the phone didn’t work properly, but just with interruption and noise in the first day. Now, it doesn’t work at all. It’s dead, and I can’t get in touch with anybody to tell about, and to fix it.
Because, I suppose it’s only a matter of signal from the source.
Please help me if you know how.
    I’m very dissapointed.

  28. drbray said, on June 13, 2009 at 2:23 pm

“Most users that are having “trouble” with their magicJack® dongle are usually having connection problems with their computer’s USB ports and its power supply to those ports!”

I purchase and used MagicJack several months ago. It worked fine, but I have since disconnected it from the USB 2.0 port. because of lack USB ports. With my computer turned off I reconnected it into a USB port. One of the first things that I noticed was that key board no longer appears on my screen. I picked up the receiver on the phone and had a dial town. I dialed my number but the phone on the other end does not ring. I tried dialing the phone several times bit the same things happens. Nothing. I used the Icon on my Monitor screen and even checked it on properties. Every thing seems OK, but I still can not make a call. It seems this company has no help screen any where on the Internet So you never get your problem solved.

I ordered two Magic Jacks. For the first two days they seemed to be working perfectly. Then, people started telling me they could hear only every other word or so, and the rest of the time their responses were from what they thought I said, and when their answers didn’t make sense, then I knew something was wrong. It seemed too that the timing was out of sync. I don’t blame Magic-Jack for that. I think it is a great invention. I live out in a rural area and the only high speed internet service available to me, is slower than the norm. At least it is a lot better than dial up. But, it is too slow to handle Magic-Jack. So, consider your internet speed before you buy. You can have it tested and find out if your service is low, average or high, compared to the norm.

does anybody have a beeping issue? I have this issue and seems it cannot be solved, I tried support, didn’t help, tried update of June worked only for about a month, tried the fix, still beeping. can anybody help??

  41. Nicolae said, on October 14, 2009 at 6:28 pm

Hi, you can use magic jack if you are lucky, after receiving the magic jack a period of one-or two months, no more in any case. That is. For $ 39.95, which you pay. It’s faire? Absolutely not! If you consider their promisse that it will be usefull for a year.
After a year I tried again and I paid $19.95 for prolongation. It restarted and worked for two days. Now, it doesn’t matter for me any kind of publicity, I do know that does not work, in spite of everything.
I do not trust magic Jack company for a million years from now on.
Hasta la vista Jack: you are not magic.

  42. jaetek said, on October 20, 2009 at 10:01 am

    MagicJack is a 8/10

Ive had it for over 6months now and have no problems with it. When I talk on it, I can hear people perfectly. I notice the quality is slightly better than the traditional analogue land line.

My phone is a: 5.8ghz Panasonic Digital Cordless phone
PC: Intel Core2 duo 2.33GHZ w/ 4Gigs of ram running windows Vista. Plugged into my router via 1Gbps Ethernet (not wireless, or 100mb)
    Router: Dlink DIR-655 Wireless N w/ QOS!
ISP: Roger Cable. I get 9.84 Mb/s Download, and 0.46 upload

With my setup it sounds slightly better than my landline phone. If you are having problems with people not hearing you, beeping, or a loss of words, you need to be sure that your internet connection, router and computer are all upto date. Also be sure to plug MJ directly into a usb port on the computer, and avoid using usb hubs, or extensions.

The only real problem I notice with magic jack is when you have multiple windows user accounts, it loads magic jack on each one at startup which is why allot of people cannot make calls, or receive a stuttering dial tone. To fix this problem make sure only ONE instance of MJ is running on the computer. If your in windows, just log off other users, restart MJ and that should fix your dial tone problem.

I rate this a 8/10 because it actually does work if you have a proper setup. And the uptime seems to be 99% I use this everyday for 6months now and Ive never had a problem with the network being busy or congested.

So before you badmouth a good product, make sure you check your setup. (ISP, Router, PC Speed)
