Rip's Domain is down

Posted in ColdFusion by rip747 on August 16, 2006

If you’re like me and use for your hosting company, well they’re down. Apparently a construction company managed to cut through all 4 fiber lines leading into DataCenter 1. If you call their number (1-877-215-4678), they will offer to move you to DataCenter 2 to get you up and running.

If the first number is busy you can call the back door line 1-877-472-6784.

Things should be back to normal in a couple of hours.

This sucks 😛

CF is hard :)

Posted in ColdFusion by rip747 on August 2, 2006

I just noticed this site on digg. I went to checkout the CF code on the site and guess what, there isn’t any?!? I’m going to have to open up an account so that I can throw some snippets on it. Check out the site, it has some very useful snippets for other languages. I especially like some of the snippets they have for dotnet.

My CF8 Wishlist: Nothing. Fix what’s broken.

Posted in ColdFusion by rip747 on August 1, 2006

I’ve been reading these all week, so I might as well be the one to say it:

I don’t want any enhancements in CF8, in fact I don’t want a CF8. What I want is a CF7.5!

What I want Adobe to do is to fix the version that we have now. I don’t need interfaces or static methods in CFCs. I don’t want CFIMAGE (Alagad’s image component works great), enhancements to CFSCHEDULE, CFDOCUMENT enhancements, IMAP, SMTP, NNTP, units test or anything else for that matter.

What I want is for CF to be STABLE, FAST and RELIABLE. I currently maintain many web sites with a hosting company (I WILL NOT MENTION THEIR NAME) whose servers constantly go down with JRUN errors. This isn’t annoying, it’s embrassing. I can’t tell you how many times I’m unveiling a web site to a client and I get a JRUN connection error. My heart sinks and my pride dies. Don’t say that it’s because the web site is on a shared host. There are only 8 other sites on the server with me and this stupid thing can’t handle it. JRUN needs to be fixed period.

In my opinion CF is the best language. I’ve tried many others and have always come back to CF. I’m tired of hearing the CF bashing around the internet because of slowness and unreliability of it. Adobe has the chance right now to change that. It’s a new company that CF is under now and one of the biggest. This could be the release that puts CF a head of .Net and PHP and smacks ROR. What Adobe has to do is focus on fixing what they have now and forget about trying to cram more crap and bloat into it.

I am wrong? Am I right? Am I insane?

WSOP: The Dream is Over.

I just received word that my dad was KTFO. Sucks man, he was doing so well. He went all-in with AQ and the other guy had AK. He caught a Q on the flop and the other guy river-ratted the K. Pisses me off. I really wanted my dad to make it to Day 3.

Oh well, there is always next year and this time, I’m going with him.

WSOP: Dad doing well on Day 2

Posted in WSOP by rip747 on August 1, 2006

Just got off the phone with my bro:

My dad went down to $2K (which seems to be the magic number) and built himself back up to $13K (where he started the day). They’re on break right now so we’ll see what happens when they get back.

Stayed tuned for further updates.

I promise to return to posting about CF related stuff soon (does that make you happy, Mr. Stephen Cassady). With the excitment surrounding my father and me being up to my eyeballs in work right now, I don’t want to rush a post and it be something totally stupid.
